The DBU news for next season was discussed in a video conference

The German billiard federation DBU is busy to plan the new 2021/22 season. In a video conference with the national clubs the plans were presented and discussed. The topics and results are published on the DBU homepage Billardarea. Kozoom had a telephone interview with DBU president Helmut Biermann, where the main topic was the new season starting in September 2021.

Helmut Biermann commented, among other things: ''We have to prepare ourselves as if the season will be able to have a normal kick-off. There is no plan B for the start of the season, because that is only speculation and cannot be taken seriously.'' About possible corona restrictions, the DBU president said: ''In principle, we can make rules, but everyone should know that the rules of the respective state, province or municipality prevail. Therefore, clubs should check with their competent authorities under what conditions matches and events can be played.''

The main points of the video conference:

We expect to start the billiard season in September/November this year. In recent months, the invitations to play have been revised and the DBU Sports Council has drawn up the promotion and relegation rules.

The invitations to play for the national and regional leagues as well as the German team championships, the key documents and the schedule of match weekends, Grands Prix tournaments, training camps and already known international events are to be published by 30 April. The team compositions must be submitted by 31 May 2021.

The Sports Council of DBU will definitely know how many teams will start at the closing date of the registration (31 May). Another video conference with representatives will take place on 5 June 2021 to discuss the leagues and schedules at federal level. Registration of players with the teams is possible until 15 August.

According to an agreement with Bad Wildungen, this year's German Junior and Senior Championships are to take place directly after each other:

German Youth Championships: from Friday 22 October to Thursday 28 October.
German senior championships: Thursday, 28 October to Sunday, 7 November 2021.

The final decision on whether to hold the championships will be taken by the DBU Presidium in June.

The German federation is aware of the clash with international dates. However, all international federations plan their tournaments in the second half of the year, so scheduling conflicts are inevitable. The federation tries to take this into account as far as possible in its schedules.

From the DBU side, Grand Prix tournaments will be offered in all game types starting the coming season. In the future, the focus will therefore also be on individual sports. With an appropriate PR package some Grand Prix events will be broadcast live and all Grand Prix tournaments will be accompanied by extensive coverage.

The DBU offers staff support if it is not possible for the state federations to organize training for national teams or to organize training for young players. In this case players from neighbouring national associations can also be invited together. The DBU junior coaches are happy to provide support.

Team training of the DBU

Even if sports facilities have to remain closed for hobby and mass sports, the DBU is allowed to hold team training sessions. The legal regulations allow competitive sports and the DBU has the permits.

The DBU team training sessions serve to prepare for European and World Championships, as well as Euro Tours and World Cups. These championships form the basis for qualification for the World Games to be held in 2022 and 2025. Successful participation in the World Games secures long-term federal funding for DBU for the development of competitive sport.
