BERLIN/WITTEN - The bundesliga for teams closes the first half of the season this weekend. The latest news is, that the team BC Magdeburg has cancelled for the double weekend due to two Corona cases in the team. BC Magdeburg, champion in 2019, is in second place and was scheduled for two away games at BC Weywiesen and AGB Xanten.
It is not yet known how the DBU will deal with this situation. A defeat on the green table would be bitter for the team from Magdeburg. A possible title in that case could be far away.
After the Magdeburg cancellation, all eyes are now on BC International Berlin and BCC Witten. The Witten team plays one match, against BSV Velbert. The Berliners play in Xanten on Saturday and against BC Weywiesen on Sunday. It is possible that the winter championship will be decided in Bottrop on Sunday. In the top match, Torbjörn Blomdahl and Martin Horn meet. For the German champion Martin Horn it is the first match in his home country after his sensational bronze medal at the World Championships in Sharm-El Sheikh in December.
In southern Germany there is the Bayern-Saarland weekend. On Saturday the defending champions BC München and St.Wendel meet and Erlange plays against BC Elversberg.
BCC Witten is in the lead. The team has played eight matches and won six of them. One match still has to be played. The second place, two points behind, still belongs to BC Magdeburg. BC International Berlin is in third place, three points behind in the race for first place. If Berlin achieves two victories, the team will take over the lead in the standings. St. Wendel and Elversberg follow in 4th and 5th place.
