GURI - Frédéric Caudron’s final sprint, which is famous and feared, brought the Belgian in the quarterfinals in a hopeless situation still close to victory in his duel with Dani Sánchez. The match between the two world class players in the Guri World Cup ended in a super sprint with a happy ending for the Spaniard.

Jérémy Bury, who shows an absolute top form in Guri, excelled with a 24 run earlier today and also topped Dick Jaspers. The Frenchman snatched victory and advanced to the semifinals, where he will meet Dani Sánchez tomorrow.

The tension was huge in the the last day session match between Dani Sánchez and Frédéric Caudron. The level was not really that high. The two players were side by side in the first part (21-16 after 18 innings, averages 1.158/0.888), near the end Sánchez attacked with 7 and 5 to 34.

The Spaniard missed a fairly simple match ball at 39-26 and was therefore almost punished. The desperately fighting Caudron went to the table for an amazing run, was a little lucky for his tenth point, but then missed the eleventh carom.

The scoreboard pointed 39-36, suddenly the match was totally open again. Sánchez finished with one, Caudron needed four points for the equalizer and leveled the match.

The penalties shoot outs had to bring the decision.

Dani Sánchez broker off with a beautiful five run and put his opponent under pressure. Caudron scored once, scored twice and missed his third by a whisker.

The semifinals in the ’European area’ turn out into a match between Jérémy Bury and Dani Sánchez. The Frenchman and his opponent Dick Jaspers faced each other  in a high class match, mostly dominated by Bury.

He led sovereign, 21-15 after five innings (runs 6 and 7). Jaspers clawed back furiously at that stage of the match. The Dutchman was trailing 33-24 in ten innings, the last attack came from the cold-blooded Bury, who finished in the fifteenth inning: 40-28.
