Henk Habraken makes marvellous run of 25 in Belgium

ANTWERPEN - The 60 year old Dutchman Henk Habraken had a very strong showing yesterday evening in the Belgium competition. He played a match of a high caliber with his team BC Lugo Deurne and sparkled with a run of 25 against Henk Blauwblomme. The run was made in the 10th inning after a tiring start of Habraken, who had 4 points in 9 innings. But then he exploded with 25, rooting his opponent to the ground for a long while.

Martin Spoormans, teammate of Habraken, was the referee on the other table and said: ,,We heard that Henk had fifteen points and we stopped our match to watch him. And he kept on scoring, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and then missed on his 26th. There was a marvellus ambiance at that moment, everyon was acclaiming very loudly.''

Henk Habraken won the match 50-37 in 33 innings with an average of 1.515. Lugo Deurne shared points with Kon. Kortrijkse BC, because the French players Richard Bitalis (1.448) and Cédéric Melnytschenko (1.200) won their matches against Erik Hendrickx and Marc Janssen.

The teams of KBC Zanzibar and BC De Ploeg are the leaders after two rounds in the Belgium competition. Zanzibar had a narrow escape thanks to an equalizer of Roland Forthomme against Leslie Menheer of K. Eeklose. BC De Ploeg also took a 5-3 win. Martin Horn and Frans van Kuyk (BC Biljart Express) shared the points (50-50 in 36 innings). Frédéric Caudron was beaten by Eddy Merckx in the match between BC Kasteeldreef and BC Deurne.

The match between BC Quality Zele and Mister 100 Lier will be played this evening.

The topmatch in the second round was the confrontation between BC Kasteeldreef and BC Deurne. Frédéric Caudron met Eddy Merckx, Eddy Leppens played against Jef Philipoom, but in their homematch both top players of Kasteeldreef were beaten. Eddy Merckx finished on 50 in 30 innings against Caudron (46 points), Jef Philipoom made it pretty hard for Eddy Leppens and won 50-40 in 34 innings.

Kasteeldreef was beaten by 6-2 in the total score, only Peter Duytschaever took the win against Ludo Dielis (50-36 in 57 innings).

The best matches on monday were played by Eddy Merckx (1.666) and two players of KBC Zanzibar. Jimmy Mues and Paul Stroobants finished their game over 42 points in only 25 innings, which means an average of 1.680. The two players on table 3 and 4 grapped the victory for Zanzibar, because Forthomme shared with Menheer and Dave Christiani lost to Christiaan Mil.

Wesley de Jaegter and Bart Ceulemans earned the winning points for BC De Ploeg by beating Guy van Litsemborg and Johan Claessen of BC Biljart Express.
