ISTANBUL - The opening sessions of the European championship were marked by high averages and big runs. Jerémy Bury was the best of all in a ten innings win against Torsten Danielson (30-4), followed closely by Martin Horn and Tayfun Tasdemir in eleven innings.
The big surprise so far was the performance of Jérôme Barbeilon. The new French champion defeated Filipos Kasidokostas 30-21 in thirteen innings.
The Greek ex-world champion has to recover rapidly from the loss, because he also meets Lütfi Cenet, the strong Turkish player in his group. Cenet needed twenty innings against David Penör, but he signed for the highest run so far (14).
Jérémy Bury made a one-man show of his match against the poor Thorsteln Danielson from Switzerland, who could only score four times in ten innings. Javier Palazón defeated Jef Philipoom in this group in a match in which te best end rush pointed the winner: 30-26 in 21 innings.
Martin Horn overpowered the Austrian Andreas Kronlachner without being in any trouble. The German shone with a run of nine and averaged 2,727. Marco Zanetti had a flawless start in this group against Slobodan: 30-5 in 15 innings.
Tayfun Tasdemir performed at the same level against Christakis Christofourou, he also starred in 11 innings (30-14). Dani Sánchez made his candidacy for the next round with a win against Jean van Erp (30-19 in 19).
