Greek player Nikos Polychronopoulos is topping the ranking after one day of qualifications

Two of the most speedy players in the world top three cushion circuit are on top after the first day of the 10x4 OneCarom Virtual Challenge. In the event, eight players fight each other in the first session this week. Nikos Polychronopoulos scored 34 points in ten innings, Dion Nelin is number two with 33. The Greek and the Dane lead in one of the two groups, Dick Jaspers is the leader with 31 points in the other group of four players. The format of the Challenge is played with a total of 24 players: three times in the periods of October 12-16, October 26-30 and November 9-13, eight different players face each other. That leads to a final round with 4 players three times. At the end of the three sessions, the final ranking will be made: the player who scored the most points is the winner.

Two groups of four, each with two players at two billiard tables in the picture, started the schedule today, playing according to the format of ten innings from the break. Nikos Polychronopoulos, the best on the first day, scored 34 caroms in 10 innings. This schedule will be repeated for two more days. Then, the four best will meet on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16. The question in the online interviews was mainly: is it feasible to reach 100 caroms over three sessions of ten innings?

Dick Jaspers leads after one session in Group A followed by Lütfi Cenet, Duc Anh Chien Nguyen and Estela Cardoso, the Spanish lady who is the substitute for Sruong Pheavy. In Group B, Nikos Polychronopoulos and Dion Nelin lead the ranking ahead of Sameh Sidhom and Quyet Chien Tran. The opening day did not show exceptional averages and high runs. The top three in the standings are on track to reach the 100 caroms barrier. The best run from the break was made by Nikos Polychronopoulos with 9, ahead of Sameh Sidhom with 8. The Greek was also the best on average: 3,400.
