Jean van Erp was the star player on the first day with 3.000 average.

MERKSEM - The Dutch player Jean Van Erp is playing table three in the team of De Ploeg, nevertheless he was the absolute star player on the first day of the competition in Belgium. De Ploeg is the first leader in the rank: with Martin Horn at table one, Jef Philipoom at two, Jean van Erp at three and Wesley de Jaeger at four the team started with two 8-0 wins. The first match was on Monday, the second was played one week ahead because of the World Cup in Vienna.

The main role was for Jean van Erp, the Dutch man who's star was rising in the match against Tom Ronge of KBC Biljartvrienden on Monday (42-18 in 14 innings, 3.000 average for Van Erp). On Tuesday the Dutchman defeated Koen Ceulemans in 19 innings.

That match hasn't been calculated in the rank so far. BC De Ploeg leads after one day together with BC Herentals and BC Quality Zele, the three teams that gathered two match points. BC De Ploeg is the only team with four wins: Martin Horn defeated Anno de Kleine (50-21 in 26), Jef Philipoom won against Jaak Wijnen (50-41 in 42) and besides Jean van Erp also Wesley Jaeger won: 42-19 in 39 innings against Leo Meyer.

BC Herentals started with a 5-3 victory in his duel with BC Kasteeldreef, but saw Dion Nelin at center court lose against Patrick Kesteloot, who showed himself in top form: he defeated the Dane 50-49 in 25 innings. Christian Rudolph (against Peter Duytschaever), Leon Smolders (aganst Tom Bracke) and Geert Meylemans (draw against Peter Rodt) were responsible for the 5-3 win.

BC Deurne, the team that's seen as a big candidate for the title, spoiled an important match point on the first day. Dick Jaspers didn't play (he planned to play about sixteen matches), only Jean Paul de Bruijn and Therese Klompenhouwer won two match points. Henk Habraken (who beat Davy van Havere with 1.851 average) and Kay de Zwart (against Steven Van Acker) were the two winners for Lugo.

KBC Zanzibar shared the points with Mr 100 Lier. Kurt Ceulemans won his match against Roland Forthomme and thus took revenge for the loss on the first day of the league in the Netherlands, when Forthomme won 50-28. This time Ceulemans won 50-48 in 40 innings. Bart Ceulemans had an excellent debut for the Mr 100 team with a win against Martin Janssen: 42-25 in 25 innings.

Johan Loncelle surprised with a win against Frans van Kuyk in the meeting between BC 'T Lammeken and Biljart Express. Dave Christiani also defeated Gerwin Valentijn. Martin Spoormans and Guy van Litsemborg were the winners for Biljart Express and gave their team a 4-0 lead at the break.
