BOGOTA - Julián Torres has returned to the Colombian top of three cushion after several years of absence. In the new Club 8 Arena in Bogotá, the Colombian player could raise his arms facing big applause after he beat his opponent Daniel Morales 40-32 in 27 innings in the final of a tournament with many strong Colombians.

In the last match on the long final day, Morales took the lead 9-5 in the first part, but with two runs, 'El Juli' passed his opponent. In the final sprint, Morales counterattacked again, but Torres was the best in the final phase: on a 30-30 score, he ran out with 2-6-1 and 1. Therefore, he grabbed the overall victory.

Third place was shared by Pedro González and Luis Martínez. Martinez defeated the Pan-American champion, who came close after 34-17 down, but still lost 40-37. Julián Torres was the better against Martinez in the semi-finals 40-31 in 34 innings. The only non-Colombian player, Javier Téran from Ecuador, finished sixth.

''We have built a new relationship with the Colombian Federation and hope for their support and collaboration with players, events and the people who are doing tremendous work for billiards in this country. We want billiards in Colombia to grow further. Next year we will certainly invite players from Europe in preparation for a World Cup that we want to hold in Colombia.''
