The Korean day-winner, Byung Seob Kim

CHEONGJU CITY - In the 48 players field, of which more than half were Koreans (26), he was hardly known. Byung Seob Kim, nice man, decent gray vest, gray bow tie, not one of the youngest, started as a dark horse at the World Cup in Cheongju City. He was opposed to another Korean and Vietnamese, won two times comfortably and closed his tournament day impressive. On top of the day ranking, four match points, 2.222 of average. Gökhan Salman and Quang Hao Truong may try to stop the best man until now (Wednesday).

The Korean outside player showed high class in two quick matches: 30-14 in 14 against Jung-Min Park and 30-6 in 16 against Tan Hoi Vo. And also remarkable: his best run was five, the lowest of all group winners!! What does that say about his qualities? In any case, he played very regular over two matches. And let's say that Byung Seob Kim probably had the day of his life, as many people experience one day at the match table. Wonderful positions, good feeling, regular scores and hoppaaa.... On top of the ranking.

With two other Koreans, the Turk Tolgahan Kiraz and six Koreans in his shadow, followed by Carlos Campino and Mauricio Aguilar, also from Colombia, who also survived his second day. Kiraz, one of the Theory players, was the only European in the main group with two wins and 1.395 on average.

It was the run-up before the arrival of the sub top players, with one player over two averages on the second day and 26 over one average. Woo Chai Gil missed the top field, despite his 1.628 on average, but may happily return as runner-up. The man, listening to an illustrious name, Sang Lee, was eliminated with 1.575.

Two Europeans on the second day were two known French. Bernard Baudoin, Kozoom-figurehead behind the scenes, won his first but lost his second.. Daniel Garonnat, known as an international referee, was out of the game after one day: no match points, 0.459 average. Gülsen Degener couldn't really shine, without match points, 0.583.

The gladiators for the third day are among others: Kostas Kokkoris, Hiroshi Sasaki, Hideaki Kobayashi, Jung-Ju Shin, Robinson Morales, Birol Uymaz, Tatsuo Arai, Carlos Campino, Hyung Bum Hwang, Sang Pil Um, Jean Paul de Bruijn, Duc Anh Chien Nguyen, Therese Klompenhouwer, Tolgahan Kiraz, Jin Pyo Hong and Gökhan Salman.
