OLOMOUC - The quarterfinals of the Anag Billiard Cup in Ohomouc (Czech Republic) are kicked off this afternoon (Saturday) with the matches Patrick Niessen (B)-Esteve Mata (Sp) and Eddy Leppens (B)-Arnim Kahofer (Aus).
This afternoon at 17.00 Raúl Cuenca from Spain meets Martin Bohac from Czech, on the other table Xavier Gretillat from Switzerland faces Dave Christiani from the Netherlands. The matches can be followed live for Premium pass holders on Kozoom.
The eight players have qualified after the preliminaries with four groups of three, in which Wolfgang Zenkner, Markus Melerski, Pierre Soumagne and Marek Faus were eliminated.
Eddy Leppens ended up as the best in three cushion of all twelve players. He averaged 2.000 over two matches. Patrick Niessen was the best player in balk line 71/2 with 33.33 average, Xavier Gretillat in one cushion with 7.69.
The Frenchman Pierre Soumagne missed the qualification for the finals by a few unfortunate losses. He stranded over one carom in the balk line in his match against Xavier Gretillat (100-99), in the same match he lost with six points in one cushion against the Swiss. Soumagne was despite of his elimination the second best in one cushion with 7.23.
Eddy Leppens excelled with two excellent matches in three cushion: 15 in 7 and 15 in 8 innings.
Patrick Niessen sparkled in the balkline with 200 points in six innings; his first match he finished even in one inning.
Dave Christiani was with 200 points in eight innings in 71/2 one of the better players, but the Dutchman was disappointing in one cushion (5.76), in which discipline he is champion of his country and in three cushion with 0.571.
