ANDERNOS - The sixth finalist for the Kozoom Challenge Cup this week comes from the group with Torbjörn Blomdahl (Sweden), Gwendal Maréchal (France) and Ronny Lindemann (Germany), who start the first session today (Wednesday). The commentator of the previous sessions, Torbjörn Blomdahl, is now at the table himself. He is undoubtedly favourite for the victory against two opponents from other generations.
Gwendal Maréchal plays for the first time in his young career against Blomdahl, the reigning world champion. The Frenchman met Dick Jaspers (World Cup Porto 2019), Eddy Merckx (Duke 2020), Frédéric Caudron (World Cup La Baule 2019) and Marco Zanetti (World Cup Blankenberge, in La Baule and Lausanne) from the world top in recent years and is looking forward to the first encounter with Blomdahl. ''I did play him in a Scotch Double match at the European Championships in Brandenburg, but that is certainly not the same as a face-to-face match.'' Maréchal only won in his matches with top European players against Murat Naci Coklu and Roland Forthomme so far.
He is looking forward to the match with Blomdahl and Lindemann in the Kozoom arena. ''I feel excited to play an international tournament again with a different format. I hope I will play well and have pleasure to play. The favourite in this match? Yeah, Blomdahl is not a big deal, haha. It's only the reigning world champion and one of the best players in history.''

De commentator van de vorige sessies, Torbjörn Blomdahl, staat nu zelf aan de tafel. Hij is ongetwijfeld favoriet voor winst tegen twee tegenstanders uit andere generaties.
Gwendal Maréchal speelt voor het eerst in zijn nog jonge carrière tegen Blomdahl, de regerend wereldkampioen.
