Martin Horn leads Soissons to first win in France

SOISSONS - The first meeting between Soissons and Andernos, a catch-up match for the third round in Group A for the French team league, ended in a 4-2 victory for Soissons. The fourth match was not played, because Jérémy Bury had tested positive for COVID in the early hours. Jean Paul de Bruijn came over from the Netherlands, but could not be in time for the match against Dick Jaspers. The two Dutchmen therefore played a practice match later on the day. Jean Paul de Bruijn won that match 40-36 in 16 innings, an excellent game thanks to runs of 8, 4, 7, 4 and 6. Soissons and Andernos faced each other again later in the day for the fourth round. Andernos won that match 5-3 (see report later).

In the first match session for the third round, the numbers 2 and 4 faced each other in the matches Martin Horn-Marco Zanetti and Mikaël Devogelaere-Jérôme Barbeillon. Martin Horn and Marco Zanetti met in a very interesting match. The German started with six from the break, Zanetti answered in the third and fourth inning with two times 8: 16-9 in 4 innings for Zanetti. A third 8-run by the Italian in the 10th inning made it to 25-19 in 10 innings. From the 13th to the 17th, Zanetti scored only 6 points, while Horn closed the match with a series of 6-8-1-2-3 to 40-33 in 17. Barbeillon and Devogelaere started strongly with 15-13 in 7, Devogelaere scored only 13 points after the break, Barbeillon won the match 40-33 in 24.

Pierre Soumagne (Soissons) faced Gwendal Maréchal and the difference was made right from the start. Soumagne, who is also the president of the Billard Club de Soissons, showed his excellent for and went into the break after 9 innings with a 22-2 lead(!). That margin remained on the scoreboard, as Soumagne won 40-19 in 23, Soissons therefore winning the match 4-2.

In the practice match between the leaders Jean-Paul de Bruijn and Dick Jaspers, De Bruijn played a great match. He beat Jaspers after having dominated the whole match: 23-16 in 10, then 35-18 in 12 after runs of 8 and 4 for the Soissons-player. De Bruijn finished in the 16th and despite a late final sprint with 7-4-6, Jaspers stuck to 40-36 in 16.

The team averages: Soissons 1.765, Andernos 1.438. With this victory, Soissons is the leader in the group, but later in the evening, the fourth round match between the two teams will take place.
