Martin Horn didn't show his best form in Matosinhos.

The man who stopped Dick Jaspers in the semi finals in Matosinhos last year and then lost the final against Frédéric Caudron will not duel for the main prize this weekend. He is out the game after one match in the tournament. Martin Horn left his best form at home, as it seemed. He was eliminated in the Portuguese port by Eddy Leppens.

Martin Horn came with a small smile out of the dressing room, fifteen minutes after his match. He knows better than anyone that form is simply elusive, even though he played almost every week on high-level this season in the Dutch league.

Eddy Leppens is looking forward to some important days, because his world ranking can change up or down. The Belgian is the number fifteen now, but at the worldchampionship in Peru in ten days, he defends the precious points of last year, when he played and lost the final in Sluiskil against Dani Sanchez.

,,I had a good feeling in my match against Martin Horn,'' he said, ,,and I made a good decision at an important moment in the match.  party. That's why I kept the lead and could win pretty easily at the end.'' Leppens made a run of ten, the highest in the first session.

Dick Jaspers was barely threatened in his match against the Vietnamese Anh Vu Duong, who he defeated 3-0 in sets with an average of 2.142. Torbjörn Blomdahl was even more quickly finished with his opening match against Jean Paul de Bruijn. The Swede started with a nasty 15-0 in the first set and defeated his opponent then 15-12 and 15-8. The Dutchman was the only player of this round with an average undeer one (0909).

Jérémy Bury lost his first set against Javier Palazón, thereafter the Frenchman dominated in sets with 15-13, 15-9 and 15-6. The match wasn't very fluently for both players. Bury wil find Blomdahl on his path in the next round.
