Martin Horn made a run of 24 in Belgium: a new German record.

LOVENDEGEM - The German record was in hos own hands since 1999, when Martin Horn made a highest run of 21 in Bochum in a match for the Bundesliga. Christian Rudolph equaled the run in the Dutch league in 2007. Tonight, Martin Horn improved the record with a perfect played run of 24 in a match for the team of De Ploeg in the Belgian league.

Moreover, he equaled the German record of shortest match over 50 caroms in fourteen innings. That record was also held by Horn and Rudolph.

The sympathetic German took a short break when he had made his 22nd point in the match against Patrick Kesteloot. ,,Because finally, after so many years, I had broken the German record.'' Then he made another three caroms. The 25th point was a shot he had to play double round the table. The cue ball hit the third ball when he passed him after two cushions.

The crowd in the cozy billiard room of De Kasteeldreef rewarded Martin Horn with an ovation. Jef Philipoom, who played at the other table, looked at his teammate in admiration. And some minutes later, during the intermission of the match, Martin met his very prowd father-in-law at the toilet, who had made the long journey from Essen (nearly six hundred km) as a faithful supporter.

Was it a coincidece or not: just before the match started, Martin Horn asked: please, can you take a picture of me with my Longoni cue? It was the cue with which he made the marvellous run after a slow start (10-8 behind in 7 innings). Then Horn exploded with his great perfromance, touching all the balls perfectly, the short angle shots, a bankshot, some twice around shots, a double the rail, all of them with such a nice touch.

Horn took the lead after his run 32-10 in eight innings. Six innings later, the match was done: 50-16 in fourteen, equalizing the German record shortest match.

BC De Ploeg is the proud leader in the Belgian league again after tonight (8-0 win), with three winning matches and a match score of 24-0. Jef Philipoom, who played unhappy early in his match against Peter Duytschaever, won 50-22 in 36. Jean van Erp, the strong starter in the Belgian league, defeated Tom Bracke in 26 innings, Wesley Jaeger came to the finish in 46 innings against Steven de Bleker.

Wesley de Jaeger is worrying an injury at the lens of his left eye for several weeks. ,,I have an appointment with a specialist this week,'' he said. ,,There's a big chance that he will decide to an operation. Then I will need at least six weeks to recover.''

Dick Jaspers made a run of twenty in Belgium earlier this week in a match against Frans van Kuyk, which ended in a draw (50-50).
