HELSINGBORG - Michael Nilsson is the new Swedish three-cushion champion and takes over the title from the all time champion Torbjörn Blomdahl. The winner took his fifth national title in a final played in Helsingborg against David Pennör: 40-20 in 20 innings. 50-year-old Nilsson took the toughest hurdle on his way to the title in the semi-final when he beat 31-time champion Blomdahl.
Michael Nilsson won his three matches in the group stage with 1,121 on average and then stepped up the pace in the quarter-finals. In that round he defeated the not-so-known Henryk Kalita 40-35 in 21 innings.
Torbjörn Blomdahl went full speed from the start and ended his group matches with three victories and 2,143 on average. In the quarter-finals, the reigning world champion defeated Manuel Orellana 40-7 in 19 innings, before he was surprisingly knocked out by Nilsson in the semi-final.
The later champion Nilsson took the initiative from the start in this semi final. Only after 8 innings, Blomdahl came into the match and was able to close the gap. But Nilsson continued playing well and led 36-25. With a run of 8 Blomdahl came back to 33-36, but Nilsson had the final shot and won 40-34 in 24.
David Pennör, who himself became Swedish champion for the first time in his career in 2018, did not stand a chance in the final. Nilsson's victory in the semi-final over Blomdahl was a relief for the future champion. In just 20 rounds, the final was won by Nilsson, 40-20.

HELSINGBORG - Michael Nilsson is de nieuwe Zweedse kampioen driebanden en wisselt daarmee de veelvuldig kampioen Torbjörn Blomdahl af. De winnaar behaalde zijn vijfde nationale titel in een finale die in Helsingborg werd gespeeld tegen David Pennör: 40-20 in 20 beurten. De 50-jarige Nilsson nam de zwaarste hindernis op weg naar de titel in de halve finale toen hij de 31-voudige kampioen Torbjörn Blomdahl versloeg.
Michael Nilsson won zijn drie partijen in de groepsfase met een gemiddelde van 1.121 en voerde daarna het tempo op in de kwartfinales. Daarin versloeg hij de niet zo bekende Henryk Kalita met 40-35 in 21 beurten.
Torbjörn Blomdahl gaf vanaf het begin vol gas en sloot zijn groepswedstrijden af met 3 overwinningen en een gemiddelde van 2.143. In de kwartfinales versloeg de nog altijd regerend wereldkampioen de kansloze Manuel Orellana met 40-7 in 19 beurten, voordat hij in de halve finale verrassend werd gevloerd door Nilsson.
De latere kampioen Nilsson nam vanaf het begin het initiatief in deze finale. Pas na 8 beurten kwam Blomdahl in de wedstrijd en kon hij de kloof dichten. Maar Nilsson bleef goed spelen en leidde met 36-25. Met een serie van 8 kwam Blomdahl terug tot 33-36, maar Nilsson wankelde niet en won met 40-34 in 24.
David Pennör, die zelf in 2018 voor het eerst in zijn carrière Zweeds kampioen werd, had in de finale geen schijn van kans. Nilsson's overwinning in de halve finale op Blomdahl was een bevrijding voor de toekomstige kampioen. In slechts 20 ronden werd de finale met 40-20 gewonnen door Nilsson.
