HELSINGBORG - Two groups of six players have completed the prelims in the Swedish championship. Michael Nilsson leads the table with the best average (1.515), Torbjörn Blomdahl the other group with 1.379. Both players are unbeaten after five games. The tournament continues with the quarterfinals, where the four best players from the groups meet.

Torbjörn Blomdahl is the defending champion, Michael Nilsson his biggest challenger. The Swedish giant was superior in his group with five, where he won all his matches, inclusiding a victory over Bo Gustafsson in fifteen innings.

Five players from the organizing club BK Borgen have qualified. Torbjörn Blomdahl will face his teammate Björn Lohmander in the quarters.

Blomdahl did not start off so spectacular: the only match on a high level was against Henryk Kalita, but in the other matches he remained unbeaten.

The reigning champion took along to the quarters his club mate David Pennör, who was on the podium last year, Nalle Olsson and Henryk Kalita.

Michael Nilsson from Stockholm BS gathered ten out of five in the other group and finished before Peter Lohmander and Bo Gustafsson (both six out of five) and Björn Lohmander. Pennör took eight out of five and lost only to Blomdahl 40-35 in 31 innings. He beat another competitor, Nalle Olsson, 40-39 in 38 innings.
