Michael Nilsson, strong starter in Dutch league beating Forthomme

ZUNDERT - Roland Forthomme's great match in the German league with 40 caroms in 7 innings this Saturday, was still talk of the town in Zundert, when the Dutch Premier League started the second day one day later. The Belgian giant played a home match and met another big guy with his team from Zundert against A1 Biljarts. His opponent was Michael Nilsson, the Swede who can be admired once again in the Dutch league. The match could go eather way when the two leading players were facing each other and Forthomme was a the favorite, based on his form in Germany. But billiards is not a game on comment. Michael Nilsson came strong from the blocks, Forthomme had trouble to follow the Swede and eventually the final score was 40-35 in 26 innings with Nilsson as the winner. The home team was left empty handed, A1 Biljarts achieved an unexpected 6-2 victory, because Richard Bitalis (against Barry van Beers) and Addy Wienk (against Sam van Etten) also were flagged as winners.

The Brabant team from D'n Hoek dropped out from the bunch of front runners, which are still with three left after the second round. SIS Schoonmaak, Bousema Lochem and 't Hartje are on top with the maximum 4 match points, followed by Dallinga one point down and four teams on two points. SIS Schoonmaak celebrated a deserved home win against 's Lands Welvaren (7-1), as only Eddy Merckx allowed a draw to Dirk Weeremans (25 innings). Raimond Burgman was the best winner in 21 innings against Ronny Brants.

Bousema Lochem had to put up a hard fight for a 5-3 victory over 't Ivoor after a balanced score at the stop. Wesley de Jaeger was knocked by a strong playing Huub Wilkowski: 40-23. Frans van Schaik didn't really have a good start against Marc Roofthooft, faced a 21-29 deficit halfway through, but then scored 11, 7 and 1 and finished the game in the 24th inning. The two leaders then entertained the audience with a high-quality party. Johan Loncelle started well on behalf of the home team, took an 11-0 lead, but Dave Christiani, with runs of eleven and six, came up with a strong counter. The halfway score was 21-19 and Loncelle could expand his lead in the second part. The Belgian ended his match in style in the 17th inning with a run of seven. Christiani missed the equalizer and got stuck at 28.

The decision about a win or draw for the team of Ronny Hazewinkel had to come from the match between Sander Jonen and Jack van Peer. Jonen finished slightly after 38-38, Van Peer ran out from the spots to 40-40.

The Brabant team 't Hartje joined the unbeaten leaders as the number three due to a victory over HCR Prinsen. Glenn Hofman (40-20 in 23), Frank Martens (40-29 in 29) and Harrie van de Ven (40-39 in 33) were victorious against Anno de Kleine, Roy Zielemans and Raymund Swertz. Harrie van de Ven's match kept the home crowd on the edge of the seats until the last caroms. HCR Prinsen, without its top guns, lost its third point in two matches and dropped to the low part of the ranking.

Dallinga.com is currently the most important pursuer for the three leaders thanks to the 6-2 victory in Sluiskil against Dekker Keukens. Best winners were Jean Paul de Bruijn and Peter De Backer, both in 26 innings against Ad Koorevaar (40-21) and Gerwin Valentijn (40-21). Henk Blauwblomme was the only winner in Dekker's team (40-22 in 30). Berry Dallinga surprised Paul Bruijstens 40-32 in 39.

Team Eekhoorn recovered from the weak start by taking the maximum win against the second team of Eekhoorn 8-0. Frans van Kuyk finished in 17 innings after a strong start with 32 in 9.
