Morangis first leader, Legazpi again beats Merckx

Roland Forthomme and Johan Loncelle, the Belgians who were winners in France

PARIS/ANDERNOS - Two Belgians played an important role in the match between Kozoom and Saint Quentin in the French team competition Group B this week. The match ended in a draw (4-4), Forthomme won on behave of Kozoom against Peter Ceulemans 40-22 in 18 innings, that was the best win in all matches in the first play round. Johan Loncelle (Saint Quentin) beat Nikos Polychronopoulos 40-34 in 29 innings.

Morangis, winning 8-0 against Courbevoie, is the leader with a maximum score in this Group B, Kozoom and Saint Quentin both follow at one match point.

In the match with Morangis and Courbevoie, Ruben Legazpi and Eddy Merckx played an interesting match. It was announced as the revenge encounter for the final at Kozoom's Challenge Cup, in which Legazpi was crowned overall winner. Also now, in the French competition, Legazpi was victorious against Merckx 40-32 in 19 innings.

Morangis was already leading 4-0 at the break after victories by Jean Christophe Roux over Hector Echeverry (40-39 in 36) and Jean Reverchon over Vahit Kunt 40-31 in 26. That score was boosted by Legazpi in the top match with Merckx. Robinson Morales, who made his debut for Morangis, beat Belgian Steven van Acker 40-28 in 22.
