Nathan Duriez wins French title in Saint Quentin

Nathan Duriez took the French junior title in three cushion

SAINT QUENTIN - In his second last year as a junior player, Nathan Duriez honoured his club Saint-Quentin by winning the French junior title three in front of his own crowd. It was his first national title for the young player, who is sponsored by Kozoom.

What a thrill his fans must have felt during the final of this championship, played with 7 players in a full competition. Maxime Panaia was his opponent in that final. Both players were unbeaten before the match for gold, both had 5 wins out of 5 matches. The overall average was in favour of Panaia in case of a draw (1,063 for Panaia, 0,892 for Duriez).

Nathan Duriez took the lead in the 14th inning (15-10), Panaia came back to 25-25 in 39 innings. Then the match ran out to 27-26 for Duriez, at 29-28 the local player missed his first match ball. In the 50th and last inning, Panaia could have grabbed the title with two scores, but he missed after one point. With that score 29-29, Duriez scored the 30-29 under big tension and could claim the title.

Champion Duriez remains unbeaten with 12 match points and 0,825 average, Maxime Panaia is 2nd with 10 points and 0,937, Tangui Duriez is 3rd with 8 points and 0,681 and completes the podium.

Nathan Legendre (Rouen) and Djason Ponthieu (Grauves) occupy the 4th and 5th place in the ranking with 4 points each and 0,598 and 0,578 respectively. Joshua Ty (Louviers) and Alexandre Portier (Denain) are 6th and 7th with 0,466 and 0,415 and 2 match points.

The best run was made by Nathan Legendre with 7 and the best match for Maxime Panaia with 30 points in 21 innings, 1,428.
