Gwendal Maréchal played for Gandia and took one win and one draw

MADRID - In the Spanish league for teams with twelve teams, Paiporta with its leader Javier Palazón are still leading the league after the double weekend. The numbers two and three are Castalla (led by David Martinez) and Gandia (leader Peter Ceulemans). The frontrunner Paiporta surprisingly suffered its first defeat against Valencia. Peter Ceulemans had to accept his first loss against Javier Palazón: 40-31 in 19 innings. The most known names that came into action were Spaniards Ruben Legazpi, Javier Palazón, David Martinez, David Zapata, Antonio Montes, Jose Maria Mas, Carlos Crespo and Carlos Anguita and foreign players Gwendal Maréchal, Peter Ceulemans, Robinson Morales, Rui Costa, Joao Ferreira and Mikael Devogelaere. Six teams are leading the rankings with little margin between them with 13 rounds to play.

The Valencia team, ranked 8th, was this weekends big surprise with a 5-3 victory over Paiporta. Enrique Peñalva beat Javier Palazón 40-27 in 26. Avallone's win over Unguetti and Armando Moreno's draw against Sergio Jiménez meant that Jorge Cantó's win over Villora was not enough for Paiporta to gain one point at least. On the second day, Paiporta won over Gandía (5-3) in an exhilarating battle. The leaders maintained their status thanks to Unguetti's 40-39 win over Sintas. Palazón beat Ceulemans in 19 innings (40-31). Sergio Jiménez and Frenchman Gwendal Maréchal drew.

In the Ateneo Mercentil group, the Vic team had two wins, the first against the host team and later against Kalima Rivas. Ateneo and Madrid Escuela Nacional won and lost one match. The Valencian team and the Madrid team played an exciting match. Robinson Morales defeated Rui Manuel, but the Portuguese made a run of 10 and came to within three points (40-37).

In Mostoles, the local team and Castalla took the spotlights with three points each (win and draw), Cartagena and Palma took only one point, in their mutual confrontation. In the first match of the hall Rubén Legazpi defeated Juan David Zapata with a one carom margin. David Martinez beat Ruben Legazpi in his match and Andres Carriona defeated Alfonso Legazpi. For Madrid, José María Más and Adrián Legazpi won their matches against Jesús Rico and Iván Mayor.

The highest run was made by Mario Mercades (Cartagena) with 13, followed by Ruben Legazpi with 2x10 and Rui Costa with 10. Javier Palazón played the best match with 2,105 on average followed by Gwendal Maréchal (Gandia) and Armando Moreno (Valencia) with 1,905.
