Tayfun Tasdemir, winner on his 35th birthday

SCHILTIGHEIM - The recovery was remarkable. Tayfun Tasdemir, the Turkish player who today celebrates his 35th birthday, yesterday made an affected impression on the billiard table. But with a marvellous match tonight he brought back the tension in his group. The Turkish race for survival made a victim of Vu Anh Duong, who lost 50-20 in 23 innings and now is far away from qualifying.
The tournament ended for Jef Philipoom with a remarkable and unexpected loss to Michael Nilsson. The Belgium can only by saved by a small miracle now after 50-40 in 33 innings against Nilsson. The Swede played 32 innings very bad, he said later, but suddenly exploded in the 33rd inning with a run of twelve.
"I do not know if I played so bad, because the tables were so insecure. They wore longer today’’, said Nilsson. ,,But because I played so well yesterday, I could not understand that so many balls were wrong played now.’’
The winners of yesterday in this group now had a totally different day. Anh Vu Duong even had no chance to win against Tayfun Tasdemir. ,,I played very focused, kept thinking on my defense and so made my opponent invisible.’’ Tasdemir finished 50-20 in 23 innings and is now with Nilsson the major contender for the next round. Nilsson tomorrow will play Duong, Tasdemir meets Philipoom.
