Therese meets the men’s champion

ROSMALEN - The Dutch (and European) ladies champion, Therese Klompenhouwer, and the men’s champion Jean Paul de Bruijn face each other in the eighth finals of the Grand Prix in Rosmalen today. They meet in the knock-out phase for a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Sixteen players remain from the series of qualifications. Dick Jaspers is the best in average (2.105), Glenn Hoffman produced the highest run (15). Most surprising in the penultimate round of the main event: the elimination of Dave Christiani in a group with Erwin Kivits and Frans van Schaik.

The Grand Prix in Sportfoyer De Hazelaar in Rosmalen enters the knockout phase with four matches at 14.00 this afternoon (Friday) and four at 16.00.

Followed by two quarterfinal rounds at 18.00 and 20.00.

Martien van der Spoel, Ad Koorevaar, Erwin Kivits and Jean Paul de Bruijn were the four group winneers on the second qualifying day. The best performers were in Group E, where Jean van Erp (second) played 1.640 and Jean Paul de Bruijn (first) 1.518.

In the entire field of sixteen finalists, Erwin Kivits was the big surprise. The player from Eindhoven (PSV town) drawed against Dave Christiani and defeated Frans van Schaik and Herman van Daalen. He finished as the group winner.

Frans van Schaik lost one match, vs Kivits and defeated Christiani, who only won his match against Herman van Daalen 40-39.

Herman Slikker was also a surprising group winner, ahead of Glenn Hoffman, who made a 15 run in his match against Rini Zwiers.

In Group B, three players finished with four match points. Ad Koorevaar (1.150) and Jeffrey Jorissen (1.115) were the top two finishers. Rob Lamboo was the unlucky third with 1.084.
