Belgian Roland Forthomme is topping the ranking in his group after a flashy start on the second day

The Belgian Roland Forthomme and Vietnamese star Nguyen Quoc Nguyen scored the maximum points in two match days in the UMB OneCarom Challenge. The battle for the four places in the finals will be decided tomorrow (Wednesday) in the last qualifying matches. At least six participants out of eight still have chances and even Therese Klompenhouwer, the ladies world champion in the ladies, has not been eliminated despite two losses. Cambodian Sruong Pheavy, the second lady in this field, needs a little miracle to survive the preliminary rounds.

The level in the matches was exceptionally high, especially on the second day. Nikos Polychronopoulos shared the best match in the Challenge tournaments so far. He scored the 50 points, like Dick Jaspers did in the first tournament, in 9 innings (5,555 on average), which made the Greek superior against Sruong Pheavy (50-16). Roland Forthomme had a flashy start in this group against Dinh Nai Ngo with 10, 4 and 7 in the first three innings (21-2). With two runs of 7 in the later part, the Belgian left his opponent far behind, 50-17 in 12 innings.

The tournament start was one with ups-and-downs for Ngo, because in his first match on Monday, the Vietnamese beat Polychronopoulos 50-41 in 14 innings. Forthomme started with a win over Pheavy, 50-35 in 21.

Dion Nelin and Therese Klompenhouwer met on the second day in a high-level fight, in which the Dane attacked decisively with two 9 runs. Therese didn't give up, showed her fighting spirit and some excellent points, but ultimately fell short 50-39 in 12 innings. Quoc Nguyen took the lead in this group, because after his win against Klompenhouwer (50-28 in 13) he was also dominant in the match against Jun-Tae Kim 50-41 in 19 innings. The Korean has the same match points as the Dane after his first win against Nelin (50-36 in 13).

Nikos Polychronopoulos has the best average of eight players after his 9-inning match: 3,956. Dion Nelin (3,440), Nguyen Quoc Nguyen (3,225), Roland Forthomme (3,030) and Jun-Tae Kim (3,064)  also score over three on average after two matches. The tournament is played according to the well-known system: two players meet each other in a match, in which they start from the break one by one.

The ranking after two days in Group A:
1 Roland Forthomme 4-3,030-10
2 Nikos Polychronopoulos 2-3,956-13
