ISTANBUL - The Arena Cup tournament in Istanbul was won by Turgay Orak, who beat Muharrem Peker in the final match 50-31 in 35 innings, averaging 1,429. A total of 146 players took part in the event. Sixteen players were seeded: Lütfi Cenet, Turgay Orak, Muhammet Çavuşoğlu, Ömer Karakurt, Muharrem Peker, Can Çapak, Ahmet Köseoğlu, Mehmet Aksoy, Hakan İncekara, Gökhan Salman, Furkan Şenel, Ahmet Alp, Emrullah Başemez. PBA player Adnan Yüksel and Gülşen Degener also played in the tournament.
The seeded players, along with 16 winners from the preliminary rounds, were divided into eight groups of four players. The winners in that 32-round played a knock-out in the following rounds.
Of the favorites Gökhan Salman lost to Muammer Rahmet 40-27 in 28, Murat Tüzül in the quarter-finals to Can Capak 40-29 in 39. Lütfi Cenet disappeared from the stage with 2 match points in the preliminary group.
The later champion Turgay Orak drew 50-50 in 35 innings against Ahmet Alp in the semi-finals. In the penalty shootout Orak won 4-2. The other finalist, Muharrem Peker, defeated Can Çapak in the semi-final by 50-42 in 31 innings, an average of 1,613. That score was equalled in the final by Turgay Orak: 50-31 in 35.
There was a separate category for young players in the tournament. In that youth category Doğukan Chorbaci, Burak Hashas, Batuhan Bilgin, Abdullah Kaya, M.Oguz Ceylan, Samed Aygun, Hakan Görgüç and Emir Büyükakkaş participated. Burak Haşhas defeated Abdullah Kaya 30-16 in 24 innings in the first semi-final. In the other semi-final Doğukan Çubukcı won vs Hakan Görgüç 30-19 in 29. The junior final ended with a win for Burak Hashas who won 30-10 in 14 against Doğukan Chorbaci.
