Two world stars, Martin Horn and Dick Jaspers, played a draw in the Soissons-Andernos match

SOISSONS/LAXOU - Andernos' revenge against Soissons (6-2) and Laxou's win with an excellent Jean van Erp (2.105 on average) are the most striking facts of the fourth round in Group A of the team competition in France. Two world class players, Dick Jaspers and Martin Horn, drew in the meeting between Andernos and Soissons, Marco Zanetti was the best winner in the round with a win over Jean Paul de Bruijn and Pierre Soumagne beat Gwendal Maréchal for the second time in one day.

After the victory over Soissons, Andernos leads Group A with 6 points (1,459) ahead of Soissons, also with 6 points (1,365) with 21 individual points each. Laxou, that won 6-2 against Douarnenez Novatlas, has 3 points, Douarnenez 1 point.

Soissons played against the same opponent again after the first victory over Andernos 4-2. Due to the absence of frontrunner Jérémy Bury, who tested positive for COVID, Jean-Paul de Bruijn played in the Soissons team. He was Marco Zanetti's opponent.

The first session was favourable for the visitors from Andernos with the matches Zanetti-De Bruijn and Barbeillon-Devogelaere. The clash between the Italian and the Dutchman was 22-22 at the break. The Italian resumed with 0-0-7-0-11! That series was good for a 40-25 win in 18. Jérôme Barbeillon won against Mikaël Devogelaere, just like in the first encounter, this time 40-30 in 27. For Barbeillon it was his fourth point for the team with a total average of 1,568.

Andernos led 4-0 at the break with Jaspers-Horn and Maréchal-Soumagne still to play. Pierre Soumagne led halfway 23-13 in 17 against Gwendal Maréchal, Martin Horn led against Dick Jaspers 24-17 in 11.

When the Dutch star player came back to score 29-28 in 18, Martin Horn made a 5 and took some distance again, 33-29 in 19. Pierre Soumagne still had a big lead on Maréchal with 35-21 in 27. Finally Soumagne won that second match against Maréchal as well: 40-26 in 31. The German was the first to reach 40 points in the 25th inning, Jaspers played for two points in the equalizer and closed the match: the result: Andernos won the match 5-3.

Andernos played an average of 1.446, Soissons 1.336.

Pierre Soumagne remained unbeaten in two games against Maréchal with an average of almost 1,500. Jérôme Barbeillon won twice (almost 1,600) and Martin Horn remained unbeaten with 1,905 and 3 match points against the two best in the world, Dick Jaspers and Marco Zanetti.

Laxou and Douarnenez-Novatlas played each other in the match between the lower ranked teams. In the end, it was 6-2 for Laxou, which now has 3 points and leaves Douarnenez with 1 match point.

Jean Van Erp played an excellent match against Grégory Le Deventec with a score at the break 20-6 in 5 and a final score 40-18 in 19. Matthieu Franck restored the balance between the two teams by defeating Jérôme Riotto 40-27 in 46.

The match between Torbjörn Blomdahl and Francis Forton and Xavier Le Roy and Kevin Vasseur ended in 2-2, so Laxou won the game 6-2.

Blomdahl won despite strong Belgian opposition in the beginning of the match, 40-26 in 22 (23-12 in 11 at the break). Xavier Le Roy beat his opponent Kévin Vasseur 40-23 in 41.
