Frédéric Caudron after his semi-final win over Lütfi Cenet

The two former teammates from the legendary Agipi team are facing each other in the final of the World Cup in Hurghada later today (17.00, Egyptian time). The 53-year-old Italian Marco Zanetti defeated the new World Cup winner, Dani Sánchez, 40-30 in 13 innings. Frédéric Caudron (47) won even more comfortable and beat Lütfi Cenet in the other semi-final (40-20 in 19). The place in the final match means for both players that they maintain or even improve their position in the world rankings.

The last 2015 World Cup will be won by a player that was not in one of the finals this year. Marco Zanetti seems, based on his average over four matches (2.388) a slight favourite. His demonstration of high class against Dani Sánchez showed his excellent form in this tournament. Frédéric Caudron is back from being away in the World Cups. With his first final this year, the Belgian gave his confidence a boost, although he never questioned his form.

,,My averages show that this is certainly not a bad year for me. The only thing is that I could not really shine in the World Cups so far.'' His victory over Cenet was never in danger. ,,However, I didn't have a good start, but I could turn the match my way around the tenth inning to create a gap. I was glad to make two super shots. The first (a fantastic long-short-long with the maximum English along the long rail) was just after the start of the match. ,,I thought, the position is perfect to play it like this. When I miss it, it's not too bad, if it's good, it will give me confidence.'' The second last carom brought the crowd to their feed: a spectacular draw shot with maximum English. ,,It's not that I played it for show, but it was the easiest way for me.''

The final between Caudron and Zanetti brings back memories of the world class match the two played at the European championships in Brandenburg 2013, when the Belgian equaled the world record run of 28, but Zanetti eventually took the match 40-37 in 12/11 innings. The final in Hurghada is at 17.00 Egyptian time.
