Verhoeven Ladies Open with 26 players

NEW YORK - The Jennifer Shim tournament, also called Verhoeven Open for women, will open the diptych on Friday 2 August in the Carom Café in New York. The tournament in Flushing, where Therese Klompenhouwer defends her title, will be played for the time being with 26 participants. The main competitors for the world champion are Japanese ex-world champion Orie Hida and Cambodian Sruong Pheavy. Kozoom will broadcast the tournament directly. The ladies tournament is the precursor for the "Verhoeven Open" that will be played from 5 to 11 of August with a total of 107 players.

The Jennifer Shim tournament is named after the player who was shot by her ex-friend and died on March 6, 2015.

In the Verhoeven tournament, four players so far are seeded directly for the second round: Torbjörn Blomdahl, Eddy Merckx, Dani Sánchez and Semih Sayginer.
