Vietnamese top players don't come to World Cup in Veghel

HO CHI MINH - The Vietnamese top players are not coming to the World Cup in Veghel. The situation in their country is still too worrying, many people are not vaccinated yet and the flights from and towards Vietnam are uncertain. Duc Anh Chien Nguyen, who was among the seeded players, was disappointed this morning: ''We have no choice, we feel very sad that we cannot come.''

Two of Vietnam's top players were stuck in Korea for six weeks after the Korean Five&Six tournament two months ago because there were no flights back to Vietnam.

The vaccinations are still not available for many people. ''Therefore, the situation remains very bad in our country'', Nguyen explains. ''We hope very much that we can be there in Sharm El Sheikh, but that also is still uncertain. We think we can only play again next year.''

Apart from Duc Anh Chien Nguyen, two other Vietnamese top guns, Quyet Chien Tran and Quoc Nguyen Nguyen, are the best known players who will not start in the World Cup in Veghel.

Quyet Chien Tran and Duc Anh Chien Nguyen will be replaced in the 14 seeded players by Lütfi Cenet and Sung-Won Choi.
