Vinh Ly The won the final match with ease against Quyet Trien Chan

PHAN TIET - Two Vietnamese top players were in the final of the championship that determines the top sixteen ranking in Vietnam. The experienced Vinh Ly The defeated Quyet Chien Tran 40-14 in 21 innings in a match he dominated with high runs of ten (second inning) and eleven in the penultimate. (averages 1.904/0.666).

The winner, who is 62nd in the world ranking, is ready for a big jump with the thirty points he earns in the championship. The Vietnamese champion Quoc Nguyen Nguyen was eliminated in the preliminary rounds of the tournament that was played in the city Phan Tiet. Quoc was the player at the World Cup in Porto who sparkled with a run of twenty against Birol Uymaz and still lost the match.

Vinh Ly The is one of the most congenial players within the group of Vietnamese that play the World Cups. In the first World Cup of the year in Luxor he outplayed amongst others Quoc Nguyen Nguyen. In the main tournament he was defeated by Murat Naci Coklu (40-33 in 23).

Quyet Chien Tran played a fantastic quarter final against the later winner Dick Jaspers in Porto last year. The Dutchman fought back from a long way behind, equalized and started the penalty shootout with nine from the break. Tran could only answer with four.

In the Vietnamese championship Tran was the favourite after his victory in the quarterfinals over Phuc Trien Le in 14 innings. In the semifinals Tran beat Hao Tri Vo. Vinh Ly The reached the final by a win over Quang Hao Truong.

The final match, however, was completely dominated by Vinh Ly The, who led 14-5 after three innings and a run of ten, ran out to 21-7 and scored an 11-run in the twentieth inning (39-12), followed by the winning carom one inning later: 40-14 in 21.

Two famous Vietnamese players, Quoc Nguyen Nguyen and Anh Vu Duong, were already eliminated in the preliminaries.
