Javier Teran and Luis Aveiga: no money for participation in Viersen

QUITO/VIERSEN - The South American team of Ecuador, with Luis Aveiga and Javier Teran, will not show up tomorrow (Thursday) for the nation World championship three-cushion in Viersen. The two players cancelled their participation because of (financial) problems with their federation. Luis Aveiga and Javier Teran qualified for the World championship at the Pan American championships, where Ecuador finished third.

The organization of the World championship in Viersen received the cancellation only today. Teran and Aveiga arrived at the airport on Monday for the flight to Europe, but without money for personal expenses, which was promised by the federation. Before leaving, there was a short contact with the federation president (Luis Vélez), who promised to bring the money for the players. They waited on the airport for two hours, but Velez did not show up.

Teran and Aveiga finally decided not to leave. That means for the organization in Viersen that the preliminary group with Ecuador, Spain and Greece is reduced to two countries.

The sportsdirector made clear that the UMB has tried to add a fourth B-team to the field of now 23 teams, but didn't succeed.
Spain and Greece will meet two times now in the group stage for qualification.

The schedule for the first day:

12.00:
Japan-Germany B
Sweden Korea B

14.00:
France-Belgium B

16.00:

Egypt Peru

18.00:

Italy-Luxembourg

20.00:

Denmark- loser Germany B-Japan.

Spain and Greece meet the first time on Friday at 11.00 and later at 20.00.
