Javier Palazón almost wasted his match against Lütfi Cenet. The Spaniard seemed to lose control at the end. Ryuuji Umeda also gave his opponent Jean Paul de Bruijn chances to come back in the match. The Japanase led two times in sets, the Dutchman then seemed to open the door to victory (15-14, 6-15, 15-1, 2-15). He had a quick start in the fifth set (5-1), but the Japanese had a winning sprint. He proved to be slightly more effective in the rush to the finish and ended up with five (15-6 in seven innings).
