Yavuz Göngördü was the first day's best in Hurghada

HURGHADA - Turkish player Yavus Güngördü leads the first day's ranking in the preliminary rounds of the World Cup in Hurghada. He is accompanied to next round by five Egyptians , five Germans, two other Turks, one Korean, one Greek and one Belgian player.

The young Egyptian Ayman Mahmoud, fifteen years of age, closes the row of sixteen with three match points, the first fifteen in the ranking all won two matches.

Gülsen Degener is the only lady in this group stage, the only Belgian is Vincent Eugene, the only Korean Ra Hee Kim and the only Greek Dionisis Tsokantas.

Göngördü won his two matches with an overall average of 1.153. Three other players, German Johan Schirmbrand, Korean Ra Hee Kim and Greek Dionisis Tsokantas also finished over one average. Yavuz Güngördü was the first and only with a run of ten in the tournament.

He opens the second day with a match against his compatriot Kanuni Bulent Gunduz. Gülsen Degener faces German Roman Bachmaier as her first opponent.
