LIER - The new Belgian champion is almost known, BC Deurne could have a little party yesterday evening. The only remaining competitor, KBC Zanzibar, was defeated 6-2 by Mister 100 Lier, so that the tension virtually is disappeared. BC Deurne is four points on the lead now with three matches to play.
Moreover, the leader meets in theory no more strong opponents. Jef Philipoom looked ahead to the final of the season today and said: ,,We still have to play against Eeklo, Op de Meir and Kortrijk, so normally the title cannot be in danger anymore.''
KBC Zanzibar made capital mistakes on the billiards one, two and three yesterday evening in the house of Mister 100. Peter Ceulemans kept a lead over Roland Forthomme with fourteen points at the finish (50-36 in 34), Kurt Ceulemans had a super day and defeated Dave Christiani in twenty innings (50-37).
Raymond fulfilled a decisive role for the break against Jimmy Mues. The emperor showed his team the way to the royal blue for the opponent. He beat Mues 42-23 in 18 innings (He started with one single point after 6 innings!) and a run of ten.
Paul Stroobants was the only winner in the Zanzibar team. He equalized the score before the break beating Koen Ceulemans (42-23 in 33). That was not enough to save at least a point for Zanzibar.
