Andrey Seroshtan (RUS)

At the Dynamic Billiards European Youth Championships in the Stahlpalast in Brandenburg a. d. Havel, Germany, the 9-ball individuals are down to the last 8 players standing in all three divisions.

One last 16 encounter was the match between Andrey Seroshtan (RUS) and Even Letnes Waernes (NOR). Seroshtan had the better start and took a 4:1 and 5:2 lead over Waernes. But then he seemed to lose it. Waernes got closer and closer and even overtook Seroshtan, taking a 6:5 lead. That might have been the wake-up call for Seroshtan. He renewed his concentration and went on the hill, turning the score 7:6 in his favour again. But Waernes did not want to let him go and took another rack, creating an incredible tension in the match at 7:7. Then, Waernes broke the 15th rack. He executed an almost perfect break; all balls were nicely spread out with the cue ball in the center of the table. But a coloured ball kicked the cue ball in the side pocket! Tough luck for Waernes! Seroshtan had ball in hand and ran the rack, winning the match with 8:7.

Other notable results of that round include Jesse Kivela (FIN) remaining victorious over Wojciech Szewczyk (POL) with 8:7. Marcel Fortunski (POL) hammered Finn Eschment (GER) with 8:1. David Vu (GER), silver medallist in the 8-ball pupil's division this year, fell to the sharp blade of Andreas Madsen (DEN) with 4:7. Can Salim-Giasar (GER) defeated Sergey Lutsker (RUS) very close with 7:6. That was Salim-Giasar's second 7:6 victory in a row. Daniel Maciol (POL) whitewashed Bohdan Ivanec (CZE) with 7:0.

Matches today will continue with Team competition rounds, starting at 17:00 CET.
