Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER)

Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) is definitely one of the favourite players for the senior's competition in any discipline. In straight pool, he has already claimed his spot among the final 32 players in the single elimination stage.

Wirsbitzki defeated Alberto Martini (ITA) with 75:27 in the first round. Then, he took on Mikael Andersson (SWE). Wirsbitzki shot 54 balls in his first visit at the table to make it very clear to Andersson who the alpha leader for that match should be. This performance obviously intimidated Andersson a bit. He never found his rhythm while Wirsbitzki continued his great performance. Even after Andersson played 22 balls and made the score 62:31, Wirsbitzki seemed to be not impressed at all. He demonstrated the routine of a player that is used to play on a high level for many years now. In the end, the scoreboard showed the final result of 75:39 in favour of Wirsbitzki. Andersson then had to play Berislav Silic (CRO). However, he could not find his a-game and got steamrolled by the Croatian player with 54:75 in the next round.

Other notable results include Jesse Thehu (NED) clearly creaming last years' runner-up Heiko Mueller (GER) with 75:36 in the winner's qualification round. Mueller went to the loser's side to beat Mehmet Sanlisoy (TNC) with 75:17 to also get a spot in the round of the last 32 players.
