Valeriia Trushevskaia (RUS)

Russian stellar star player Kristina Tkach was on the verge of being defeated by her teammate Valeriia Trushevskaia (RUS). But in the end she won luckily 6:5 to advance to the quarter-finals in 9-ball.

The round is winner’s qualification round, the game is 9-ball, the players are Tkach and Trushevskaia. Since Kristina Tkach has won all her matches so far with absolute dominance, the audience was not too excited about the match wich turned out to be one of the most thrilling encounters of the event so far. Tkach still played solid but Trushevskaia gave her a match, playing as solid as Tkach. Like that, none of the two was able to gain any advantage over the other one at all. After 8 racks, the score was 4:4. Then Trushevskaia even managed to win the next rack and broke Tkach’s rhythm to get on the hill 5:4. Now Tkach was under pressure. But she can handle these situations with her vast experience. She turned the match to a hill-hill thriller at 5:5. Rack 11 was unbelievable. Tkach was in front and ran the balls when she suddenly scratched on the 7-ball. That gave Trushevskaia ball in hand with two balls left on the table. Bearing in mind that the match was of really high quality, the next shot is almost too hard to understand. Trushevskaia pocketed the 8-ball and scratched with the cue ball in the side pocket! What an unbelievable mistake that was! She did not need at all to even get near the side pocket in order to get a position for the 9-ball. Probably her nerves played a trick on her and she had a total black-out. When she saw the cue ball rolling towards the side pocket, she laughed out loud in desperation. Tkach also could not believe her luck, took the cue ball inland and ended the match by pocketing the 9-ball, winning 6:5 in an absolutely amazing match. In the next round, Trushevskaia found back her game and she defeated Evelina Jureleviciute (LIT) 6:2 in the loser’s qualification round in order to join Tkach in the quarter-finals tomorrow at 09:00 CET.

Other interesting results include Fedor Gorst (RUS) whitewashing Mark Magi (EST) in the round of the last 16 players single elimination in the U19 with 8:0. In the same round, Federico Amendola (ITA) fell to the sharp blade of Aleksa Pecelj (SRB) 6:8. Joey Haegmans (NED) remained the upper hand over favoured player Daniel Maciol (POL) with 8:5.

The last round of the day was the quarterfinal matches in the pupils team division. Defending Champions Germany beat The Netherland clearly 2:0. Poland won 2:0 over Russia. Denmark got the better of Austria with 2:0 and The Finish team finished the team from Bulgaria also with 2:0.
