Pia Merbach is part of the German Nationalteam since 2016 and highly motivated to improve her skills to be prepared for the World Cup 2017. Check out how she answered our 5 questions:

1. What does the ITSF World Series tournament on Leonhart mean to you? Why do you participate?

The first time I ever played the Leonhard WS was in 2014. My Partner had to cancel, so spontanously I was playing with Bianca Wegener. We didn´t know each other very well, didn´t have any expectations and hopes, maybe thats why it was one of the best tournaments for me. In the end we won and were asked how many years we´ve been playing together. So always when I think about Leonhart WS I remember that perfect tournament with a new very good friend. That is something that follows with me on every tournament.

2. Who will be the strongest opponent for you this year?

The strongest opponent will be me, as always. At competitions like this, where only the best players are coming its all about yourself. Everyone is strong enough to beat the others, so you have to give your very best to be that one, that beats the others. Everything can happen.

3. Who will be your partner in the Women Doubles and why?

I will play with Melissa Dias in Women Doubles. I really like the way she plays, her hometable ist garlando so she is fast and energetic, that´s the most fun for me. We played against each other several times and it was always kind of the same style, why I think this can match perfectly. And besides the match, I really like her!

4. Doubles or Singles. What is your favorite event?

I prefer the singles because I prefer action! Both disciplines have their own pro´s and cons, but when I have to decide it´s definitly the singles.

5. What is your personal goal of the tournament season 2016?

I already qualified for the world cup 2017 in doubles and singles in the year 2015, which was my goal for these two years (2015/2016). So this season I use for training and trying to get to know every relevant table better, so that i am prepared for the tables and of course for my opponents as well.
